October Recap

October is the busiest month of the year for me, there are so many birthdays to celebrate and cakes to be made. I always love October because it really starts to feel like the holiday's to me because I literally celebrate with friends and family all month. Plus I had some outfits on the blog this month that I really loved so I figured I would do one big round-up of it all.

The first outfit post of this month was this floral J.Crew vest that I have been loving. You can see this post here with all the outfit details.

The first weekend of this month we celebrated my mom's birthday at the oldest winery in America at the Brotherhood Winery. I also have a whole post of our tour and wine tasting which you can see here
We then celebrated my mom's birthday and Kyles birthday at our favorite Italian restaurant.

I always try to challenge myself for a new cake recipe for my mom's birthday. So this year I found this recipe on Pinterest which is a chocolate raspberry cake with a raspberry filling. So delicious and everyone loved it.
We then celebrated my best friends birthday with frozen strawberry daiquiri's, pizza, and cake. This cake was a red velvet with cream cheese frosting and the middle cut out filled with m&m's. Another delicious cake.
This month I posted about this J.Crew flannel top which may be the softest top that I own. This is one of those shirts that you can throw on and look put together. It also comes in a red which may have to show up in my closet soon, you can see the details of this outfit here.
We celebrated another birthday of another best friend with a 90's bar crawl which was so much fun. Kyle and I both wore flannels and 90's inspired graphic tees, Kyles was dragon ball z and mine was NSYNC.
I have been loving this Amazon t-shirt dress that has pockets all over my blog and Instagram. I just think it's the best idea and I think every dress should have pockets. All of the outfit details are in this post here!
This month I also posted about this J.Crew Rainjacket, I just wish it was a little warmer so I could wear it longer as the months get colder. Check out the post here and where to get all the outfit details.

This month was also my little brother Kristians 21st birthday so I made him a confetti cake (his favorite) which was also beer pong themed which was very appropriate for his 21st birthday!

October is my favorite month because it is the start of fall and really the start of the holidays because of Halloween. But most importantly because I get to celebrate some of the most important people in my life!

Weekend Recap of Mom's Birthday

This past weekend we celebrated my mom's birthday at the Brotherhood winery which is the oldest winery in America. We did a wine tasting and we took a tour and learned facts like, they actually stayed open during the prohibition to make wine for the churches.

At the winery, there was a cute little spot to sit outside and have a glass of wine while we waited to have lunch at the cafe on site. There was also a DJ outside playing music while people could stomp grapes and wine bottles of wine for the amount of juice they produced.

At the Vinum Cafe, we ordered the most delicious cheese and a charcuterie platter for lunch. We sat outside on the back patio and listened to the cheers of the wedding going on in the distance. It was an amazing lunch with delicious food.

After lunch, we took a tour underground to see where all of the wine is made and stored. It was fascinating to go in through these almost secret hidden tunnels filled with the product that they sell is made.
After the tour, we had our tasting and got the chance to choose five wines that we would like to try. We also received oyster crackers to cleanse our pallet and the Brotherhood wine glass.

After the winery, we headed back home to have dinner at mom's favorite restaurant and had cake to finish it all off!

Happy Birthday, momma!

Weekly Review | Weekend Happenings (Birthday Edition)

(Special edition of weekly review and weekend happenings on a Monday!! There are no rules here.)

Weekly Review: This past week was a lot of preparation for this weekend, I planned a lot of outfits and packed and prepared. This past week I also posted this post about my favorite JCrew dress of the time. Today my mom is taking me shopping for my birthday and we are going to the cheesecake factory for dinner. There is just something about going to the cheesecake factory on your birthday that makes it feel like your birthday (for me at least).

Weekend Happenings: This weekend I turned 23 on the 23rd so I guess that was my "champagne birthday" cause I'm turning the age of the date of my birthday. Regardless it was a super exciting weekend. We went to the Adirondack wine and food festival which we went to last year and had so much fun and tried so many different and delicious things. It rained the whole day but we didn't let that stop us from having fun. They have a ton of food trucks with all different types of food, I ate pulled pork nachos which were so amazing. A few of my friends came and then we spent the night in one of my favorite cities in upstate New York and I had a really fun time.

Birthday edition: This year I turned 23 and I can't believe it, a lot has happened this past year and a lot is planned for the future. I graduated college with my bachelor's degree in Psychology, I finished my last year working as an assistant preschool teacher and lived with Kyle for an entire year. Upcoming this year Kyle and I will have our four year anniversary of dating, I'll (hopefully) have a full-time job and many more that I'm sure I can't even think of or even know about yet.

Last year I wrote this post: 22 Things I've Learned in 22 Years, I wrote 22 things about life and things to remember as life goes on, as I go through big changes in life I still read that post to remind me of all the little things in life.

22 Things I've Learned in 22 Years

Today is my 22nd birthday! I am headed up to the lake for a busy weekend of celebrating with family and friends. I guess you could say that I am feelin 22 today and also a little sentimental and scared. Kyle says, "when you turn 20 it's fun because you finally made it to your twenties, then you turn 21 and it a big party because you can drink, and then you turn 22 and people start asking the serious questions; like "when will you get a job" and "are you guys getting married?" I thought that writing down 22 things I've learned in my 22 years would be a good way to start my 22nd year of life.

1. People change and that's okay. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not, but that is OKAY.

2. College is really hard ( but you can do it) and make sure that it is something you look back on with joy and fulfillment.

3. Not everyone will accept you but, hold on to those who do.

4. Forget the bad/mean boys, the good ones are out there. Trust me!

5. Be honest with your mom it is so much easier in the long run.

6. If you want something, go get it and do it.

7. Things won't be handed to you, you have to work for them.

8. Enjoy your younger siblings now because one day they will be busy adults.

9. You'll have to do things in life you don't wanna do, remember that nothing lasts forever (like that semester of biopsychology).

10. Listen to your mom she knows what she's talking about, even if it doesn't seem like it at the time.

11. In 2 years no one will care how many Instagram likes you have.

12. Go to every possible family get together because everyone won't be around forever.

13. Go out with your friends and have fun because you deserve it and they do too.

14. Just because you did bad on one assignment doesn't mean you can't succeed in college.

15. If you wanna go on a diet do it the right way, no pills or insane diets where you can only eat 5 calories a day.

16. Laugh at the things that are funny, it's good for your soul.

17. Surround yourself with good people, you don't need any negative energy in your life.

18. Wear the loud and vibrant colored outfit even if it is out of your comfort zone. Rock that S**t girl!

19. Take care of your body and your mental state it is really important now and later in life.

20. Live by the words " She believed she could so she did."

21. Don't get angry over things you can't control, we all make mistakes and we learn from them.

22. Enjoy the little things in life.

My Birthday Wishlist

Later on, this month will be my 22nd birthday and I am so excited. My mom and I are going to the spa in the morning to get massages and then we are heading up to the lake that afternoon. I am planning on more of a laid back day than last year for my 21st but I'm still thrilled about whatever happens. I wanted to share a couple of things that are on my wishlist for this year.

These are a few items that I have had my eye on for awhile but haven't brought myself to splurge and buy them. Jack Rodgers have always been something that I have had my eye on but wasn't sure if I wanted to spend the money on them. I already have awful feet to begin with so I get nervous about buying shoes online. Well, yesterday I finally found a store that was close to me that sells them so I went in and tried them on. Then the WORST scenario ever happened...I couldn't get the Jack sandal on. So I am going to take a chance on the Georgica sandal and hopefully they will fit okay. It was a very sad moment for me.

On a happier note, I am really loving all of these other picks as well. I recently posted a current obsession all about statement earrings and how much I am loving them, and these statement earrings from baublebar that I have picked out are nothing short than amazing. I am loving the pom pom earrings and they are on sale (HINT HINT FAMILY).
